'For Iowa' is a series that the Iowa Hawkeyes began in order for the athletic department to highlight the culture and history of each sport at the university.
This men's wrestling piece was one in the series where as a producer I conducted the interviews and researched the history of the program. I had a conversation with Olympic gold-medalist Tom Brands, head coach of men's wrestling, along with a red shirt senior, Real Woods. Additionally, I designed the layouts of the graphics depicted in this piece.
In 2024, this piece was submitted to the Upper Midwest Regional Emmy Awards and won in the Sports Story category.
Field hockey is one of the women's sports at the University of Iowa. The history of field hockey was unique compared to other athletic teams at the university because of Dr. Christine Grant's fondness for the sport. My goal with the edit was to capture her impact not only in field hockey, but on Title IX and women's athletics.
For the women's golf piece, I wanted to try and capture the artistry of the sport in the edit. Golf is a delicate game that requires patience and finesse. The cold open was something that I knew I wanted from the start. I wanted the viewer to be right there with the golfer and be immersed in her tee box routine. I had the opportunity to have conversations with both the head coach and the student athlete for this piece.
Inspired by the 2024 film 'Challengers', I wanted this piece to have energy, excitement and drama while still capturing the culture of the program at the university. As a producer on this project, I conducted the interviews of both the student athlete and the head coach. The edit is full of fast cuts, quick camera movements and high energy.
